PFAS Program

SERVICES

Understanding PFAS.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a large group of manufactured chemicals, which were created to make coatings and products resistant to oil and water, such as non-stick cookware (Teflon) and apparel. They were also used in firefighting foams. The natural degradation of PFAS only substantially begins on a timeframe of 100s or 1,000s of years, which is why they’re called “forever chemicals.”

The understanding of PFAS health effects, environmental impact and subsequent regulation as a hazardous substance, are still developing, which creates a lot of uncertainty for water purveyors and users. Join the PBS PFAS Program. We can help you better understand evolving issues and solutions.

The PBS PFAS Program

The program was specifically developed to provide valuable service to a concerned or impacted entity of any size, from a remote Group B System to a large municipality, utilizing a shared aquifer, and everyone in between. Each program member has access to the same benefits including:

  1. A project-specific plan developed by experienced groundwater and water system professionals.
  2. Access to PBS negotiated and discounted laboratory rates, filters, and treatment systems installation.

PBS water professionals have established relationships, built on competency and trust, with Oregon’s Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Washington’s Departments of Health, and Ecology regulatory personnel. We are closely tracking the WA DOH Group A sampling requirements and NPDES permit requirements.

Regulatory agencies PBS works with via our PFAS program.

Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Reach out to us for anything PFAS! Program staff will set you up with a 20-minute, no cost, no obligation meeting to discuss your PFAS situation.

Step 2: If your PFAS situation still needs attention, a project-specific scope and cost will be presented.

Step 3: You are on the pathway to safe and regulatory-compliant water usage.

PBS is a locally owned engineering and environmental consulting firm with offices throughout Oregon and Washington. For more than 40 years, PBS has provided comprehensive environmental and engineering services to our clients. We look forward to talking with you about your specific drinking water needs!
